Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
With a strong wind blowing out to right field on Wednesday night, the Lincoln Saltdogs took the third game of their four game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6 to 3 at Haymarket Park. Mike Kesten picked up his first win of the year in his second start allowing three runs in six innings of work. Jarod Hoerman picked up the save, striking out two in the ninth. The loss went to Roger Luque, the starter for Winnipeg who allowed six runs on 10 hits.
Harry Berrios began the scoring when he took a 3-2 pitch from Kesten over the wall in right field.
It took three innings for the Saltdogs to score their first run. Catcher Kevin Sullivan took the first pitch from Luque deep to left tying the score at 1-1. Mike Goss followed with a single and scored on a line drive double to left field from Cory Harris giving the Saltdogs a 2-1 lead.
Lincoln scored again in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kevin Grijak doubled to right to begin the inning. A pair of singles from Kevin Sullivan and Mike Goss brought across the next run. Albenis Machado also picked up an RBI in the inning with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1.
In the top of the fifth inning Winnipeg tried to start a comeback. Carlos Santana walked to begin the inning, but was thrown out trying to steal second. With one on base, Odannis Ayala hit a grounder to Kesten on the mound, but his throw went into center field allowing Jorge Moreno to advance to third. Both Ayala and Moreno scored on consecutive singles from Harry Berrios and Donnie Ross. Winnipeg trailed by only two runs 5-3.
The bottom half of the inning saw Pichi Balet reach on a single and he scored an insurance run on the second double of the game from Kevin Grijak.
The Saltdogs look to win their second series of the year on Thursday night as they wrap up the four game series with Winnipeg. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
