
Salotti Homers, But Colonials Spoil Pardo's Debut

The Tornadoes pulled within a run at 5-4 in the top of the eighth win Nick Salotti's 22nd homerun of the year, but the Pittsfield Colonials scored five runs in the bottom of the frame and topped Worcester 10-5 on Wednesday night.
The Colonials got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs. Billy Mottram had an RBI groundout and Johnny Welch added a two-out RBI single to put Pittsfield on top for the first time. Six of the Colonials' ten runs came with two outs.
The Tornadoes tied the game with a pair in the top of the third. Alex Nunez picked up an RBI on an error, scroing Cameron Monger, who had doubled and stole third. Nunez later scored on the fielder's choice by Mark Minicozzi in his return to the Worcester lineup.
In the bottom half of the frame, Pittsfield struck again, retaking a two-run lead on a Chris Torres two-RBI triple. Pittsfield added another run an inning later.
in the top of the seventh inning, Ryan Crespi came around to score on Alex Nunez's sacrifice fly, making it 5-3 Pittsfield. One inning later, Nick Salotti went yard off of Chris Rubio.
The Colonials batted around in their half of the eighth against Matt McDonald, recording five hits and five hits.
in the ninth, Minicozzi picked up another RBI on a bases-loaded single that hit the center field wall. Salotti grounded out to second ending the ballgame and clinching the season series for Pittsfield.
Luis Pardo went three-plus innings in his Tornadoes debut, striking out three batters, walking one, and allowing five runs on nine hits.
Kevin Cooper relieved Pardo and retired all but two of the batters he faced in three innings of work. Serino pitched a scoreless seventh, giving up a hit.
The win went to Chad Paronto, who beat Worcester for the first time in two tries this season. He went seven frames, striking out two, walking one, and giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits.
The Colonials improved to 7-4 on the year against Worcester and 17-14 all-time. The final game in the 2011 regular season between the clubs is Thursday night at 7:00, when Tornadoes Ace Zach Zuercher takes the mound.
