Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane Chief forward Johannes Salmonsson has been selected to play for Team Sweden at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championships for the third year in a row. The 19-year-old will leave for Sweden's training camp and will be out of the lineup beginning this weekend.
Salmonsson was sixth in scoring during last year's tournament with five goals and eight points in six games and had one assist as a 17-year-old in 2004.
"This is a great honor and is very special for Johannes to represent his country at the tournament," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.
Salmonsson has appeared in 26 games in his rookie season and scored three goals and nine points. In 2004, the Pittsburgh Penguins made Salmonsson their second round selection, 31st overall, in the NHL Entry Draft.
The World Junior Hockey Championships will begin on December 26th with the medal round ending on January 5th in Vancouver, BC.
