GAME NOTES: The WHEAT KINGS will be looking to get back on the winning track Saturday night when they travel to Winnipeg to meet the visiting REGINA PATS.BRANDON is coming off Friday night's 4-1 loss to the MEDICINE HAT TIGERS at the Keystone Centre.The TIGERS outshot BRANDON 35-21 including 21-8 in the opening period en route to snapping the WHEAT KINGS' modest 2-game win streak.BRANDON'S lone goal came off the stick of captain TEEGAN MOORE, who beat TIGERS' goalkeeper BLAINE NEUFELD on a first period penalty shot.Tonight's game caps a busy week for the WHEAT KINGS, who will be playing their fourth game in five nights - in four different cities.BRANDON began the week with back to back victories on the road.Shootout goals by TYLER DITTMER and MARK DERLAGO propelled the WHEAT KINGS to a 3-2 win over the PATS in REGINA on Tuesday night and CODEY BURKI'S second period goal turned out to be the difference as BRANDON upended the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division leading MOOSE JAW WARRIORS 3-2 on Wednesday.BRANDON enters tonight's game with a record of 9-18-4-1, good for 23 points and remain one point back of the fourth place PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS.BRANDON is 6-6-3 at home and 3-12-1-1 on the road.BRANDON has lost just two games (in regulation time) over the course of their last eight games (4-2-2).
MTS CENTRE / MANITOBA GROWN: Tonight's game is the first of four regular season games to be played at the MTS Centre this season.BRANDON was a perfect 4-0-0 during the regular season last season and defeated MOOSE JAW there in game two of their best of seven opening round playoff series in early April.WHEAT KINGS currently have fifteen Manitobans on their roster including nine local products and three Winnipeggers - RYAN REAVES, STEPHANE LENOSKI and CODEY BURKI.17-year old defenceman MIKE CANN was born in Winnipeg but his family moved to Alberta several years ago.
OVERTIME: With Tuesday night's win over the PATS the WHEAT KINGS improved their overtime record to 2-4-1 on the season.2-1-0 in Shootouts.Their last Overtime Shootout win was back on October 7th when they beat MEDICINE HAT.BRANDON led the league last season with an impressive 9-1-5 Overtime record.
WHO IS HOT? Former AAA midget WHEAT KING TYLER DITTMER has scored goals in three of his last five games.SAMI SANDELL has four of his 5 goals this season during the past five games.TYLER PLANTE is 3-2-2 with a 2.72 goals against average in his last seven starts.
MILESTONES: Last Friday night's 3-goal effort against PRINCE ALBERT was SAMI SANDELL'S first ever hat trick in the WHL.Former TIGER Defenceman RILEY DAY played his 200th career WHL game on Friday.KURT JORY picked up his first ever WHL win on Tuesday night in REGINA.Defenceman KEITH AULIE collected his first WHL point - an assist against the PATS on Tuesday night.DEREK LEBLANC is 4 goals shy of a career high (scored 14 during 2004-05 campaign).
BRANDON BITS: BRANDON'S powerplay is 19th in the WHL while its penalty killing is 20th.BRANDON is 4-10-0 in one-goal games this season...On the mend - Swedish forward JOHN WIKNER (knee) , TYLER STRAUTMAN (shoulder) and veteran center JEFF TOPILKO (broken leg)...During BRANDON'S five games in Winnipeg last season, the WHEAT KINGS averaged 3,400 fans per game...Performing the National anthem at Saturday night's game in Winnipeg will be CANADIAN IDOL star REX GOUDIE. The 19-year old Newfoundland native's debut CD will hit the stores this coming week.
