Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, along with The Mustard Seed Food Bank announced today a joint effort to collect non-perishable food for families in need by having a food drive throughout the month of December, and at the following Victoria Salmon Kings games; December 10th, 16th, and 18th.
Between today and December 18th, any Victoria Salmon Kings fan who brings a non-perishable item down to Select Your Tickets will receive a ballot to enter to win two tickets to Cirque Du Soleil: Alegria, which is coming to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in September 2010! The Mustard Seed will also have volunteers on site during the December 16th, 18th, and 19th series between the Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder collecting cash and food donations in exchange for ballots for this contest.
As an extra incentive the Victoria Salmon Kings will also be offering a ticket discount to those that donate a non-perishable food item! In addition to a ballot to enter the draw for Cirque tickets, fans who drop off a non-perishable item at the Select Your Tickets box office will receive a $3.00 discount off the walk-up price of a ticket to a game on one of the above three nights.
"It's the least we can do to help," Director of Community Relations Jeff Harris said. "We're calling on all Salmon Kings fans to step up and make this the most successful food drive in team history"
"This year we are helping 7,200 people per month which is an increase of 40% from last year," Food Bank Director of the Mustard Seed Brent Palmer said. "Of that group 1,700 are children and 1,000 are seniors. I applaud the Salmon Kings for offering their venue and support as we work to fight back against hunger."
Join us on December 10th, 16th and 18th in our attempt to give families a Christmas to remember!
Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this week for a three-game set versus the Las Vegas Wranglers with contests on Thursday, December 10th, Friday, December 11th, and Saturday, December 12th. Puck drop for all three games is 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 250-220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com.
