Salem Red Sox News Release
SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox will host "Bark in the Park," an annual event to benefit the Roanoke Valley SPCA, on Sunday, May 15 at LewisGale Field. Fans will have the opportunity to bring their canine friends to the ballpark for a wash and some baseball. Gates for the event open at 2:30PM and the Red Sox will take on the Winston-Salem Dash at 4:05PM. The event is sponsored by Q99.
"It's great to get our canine friends out to the ballpark and support a great organization like the RVSPCA," said general manager Todd Stephenson. "My Golden Doodle puppy, Casey Jones, will definitely be making an appearance."
Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome. Any dog coming to the game will need a "pooch pass," which can be purchased for $5 by calling the Red Sox at 389-3333. A dog wash will take place from 2:30PM to 4:30PM and passes can be purchased for $10 (dogs less than 20 pounds) and $20 (dogs over 20 pounds). Dogs and their owners will have the opportunity to walk around the warning track as part of Bark in the Park's pre-game dog parade. All participants will be seated in a designated Reserved Seating area along 3rd base and 3rd base pavilion. There will be designated areas on 3rd base side in grass and RVSPCA will provide plastic doggie bags for owners to clean up after their dogs. Dogs must have current rabies vaccination; owners must provide verification with either up-to-date tag/certificate upon arrival.
There will also be contests for Largest and Smallest Dog, Owner & Pet Look-Alikes, and Cutest Costume. For more information about Bark in the Park, visit www.salemsox.com or called (540) 389-3333.
