Sala Plays Hero in Extra Innings

(Orem, UT) - The Orem Owlz (13-23) played in their first extra-innings game of the season, beating the Rocky Mountain Vibes (15-21) 8-7 in 10 innings thanks to a Johan Sala single at the Home of the Owlz.
For the tenth time this season, the opposition scored first at the Home of the Owlz. After Yoel De Leon retired the first two batters of the inning, Bryan Torres doubled and then Nick Kahle homered to left, giving the Vibes a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Vibes batted seven times in the third inning, extending their lead to 5-0. Rocky Mountain started the inning with a Luis Avila single. With one out in the inning, Antonio Pinero singled to put runners on the corners. Bryan Torres knocked in the Vibes third run of the game on a single to center. The Vibes then scored a run on a fielder's choice before Michael Wilson capped off the inning with an RBI double.
The Owlz got on the board in the fourth. Caleb Scires started the inning with a double and then David Clawson homered, cutting the deficit to 5-2. After the Owlz scored a run in the seventh, the Owlz grabbed a lead in the eighth inning. Jeremiah Jacosn was hit a by a pitch and later scored from second base on a wild pitch. Later in the inning David Clawson smashed his second homer of the game, a two-run shot, giving the Owlz a 6-5 lead.
After the Vibes took the lead in the top of the ninth, the Owlz tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning on Jeremiah Jackson's 13th home run of the season, sending the game to extra innings. After Jacob Voss worked a scoreless inning in the 10th, the Owlz walked off winners in the bottom of the tenth inning when Johan Sala singled in D'Shawn Knowles, giving the Owlz an 8-7 win.
Voss (1-0) earned the win while Dylan Prohoroff (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Owlz and the Vibes wrap up the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 as the Owlz celebrate Pioneer Day with a post-game fireworks show. For tickets visit goowlz.com or call the Owlz at (801)-377-2255.
