Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City...St. Paul broke open a one-run game in the ninth inning when they scored six runs to defeated the Sioux City Explorers 13-6 Sunday in the final game of the first half.

The Explorers had cut the lead to 7-6 on a RBI single by Alex Llanos in the seventh inning with one out, but the X's left the bases loaded. Llanos earlier in the game in the second inning also singled to left field which was his 1,000th career hit.

The St. Paul ninth inning would be a nightmare for the Explorers as the X's committed two of their five errors in the contest and the Saints Jacob Butler also connected on a two-run home run.

The Explorers had taken advantage of the St. Paul errors early in the game and had a 4-0 lead after three innings, thanks to three errors committed by the Saints.

Justin Toole led Sioux City with three hits and a RBI while Llanos was the only other Explorer to have more than one hit.

With the loss, the Explorers finished the first half of the season with a record of 22-26. After a day off Monday, the Explorers will start the second half of the season Tuesday at home against Lincoln. Game time Tuesday will be 7:05pm
