Pelicans outlast Cats 11-7

Lester Contreras hit a three-run homer in the top of the 13th inning as the Pelicans defeated the Cats 11-7 in extra innings on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

In front of a record crowd of 13,336, the Cats fell behind 5-0 in the first inning, but managed to rally quickly. Fort Worth scored twice in the first on a two-run single by John Allen. They scored two more in the second on an RBI single by Cameron Blair and a fielder's choice by Ryan Patterson.

The Pelicans got a run in the fifth as Chase Burch scored from third on a strikeout-wild pitch for a 6-4 lead, but Pat O'Sullivan hit his league-leading 12th home run of the year in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Cats to within one again.

In the ninth, the Cats tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Allen, but the Pelicans took the lead in the top of the 10th on a Burch home run. Fort Worth tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the 10th on a Brian Fryer RBI single to send the game to the 11th. After two scoreless innings, Pensacola came up with four runs in the ninth, highlighted by the Contreras home run, his first of the season.

Ulysses Roque (4-2) worked three scoreless innings, permitting just one hit as he earned the win in relief for Pensacola. Dustin Cameron (1-3) suffered his second loss in as many night as he allowed two runs in two innings pitched.

O'Sullivan's fifth-inning home run extended his hitting streak to 30 games. Fryer made his a 25-game streak by going 2-for-6.

The Cats try to avoid a sweep on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. as they send Joel Kirsten to the mound. He will be opposed by Pensacola's Randy Beam.
