
Saints Roll Boulders 9-1, Win Fifth Straight

ST. PAUL, MN (August 21, 2012) - The St. Paul Saints are hot at the right time and continue to fire on all cylinders with less than two weeks to go in the regular season. For the fifth consecutive game the Saints got a win, defeating the Rockland Boulders 9-1 on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 3,992. With 12 games to go in the regular season the Saints 1.5 games behind the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
During the five game winning streak the Saints have yet to trail, leading in all 45 innings and have allowed just one run in each of those games. During the winning streak the Saints have scored no later than the second inning and on Tuesday they scored in the first against former Major Leaguer Gustavo Chacin. Joe Spiers led off with a single and moved to third on a double by Adam Frost. Willie Cabrera knocked in both runs with a single to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Ole Sheldon's single moved Cabrera to second and Jose Hernandez walked to load the bases. Miles Durham's double play ground out scored Cabrera to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.
In the third Frost tripled and trotted home on Cabrera's two-run homer to left-center, his 10th of the season, to make it 5-0 Saints.
The Saints put the game away in the fourth off of Chacin as Alex Garabedian led off with a double. Spiers singled him to third. With runners at the corners Spiers stole second and Frost knocked home two more runs with a single to give the Saints a 7-0 lead. Frost finished a home run shy of the cycle going 3-5 with a double, triple, two RBI and three runs scored. Cabrera followed with an RBI single to make it 8-0. Cabrera went 3-3 on the night with a homer, a career tying high five RBI and two runs scored. The Saints roughed up Chacin for eight runs on 12 hits in 4.0 innings.
All nine Saints players in the starting lineup collected a hit.
That was all the Saints pitching staff needed. Starter Luke Anderson worked a solid 6.0 innings allowing just one run on three hits while walking two and striking out two. Brian Gump worked 2.0 innings of shutout relief allowing one hit and striking out three while Dustin Klabunde worked a scoreless ninth allowing one hit.
The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Wednesday night at Midway Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Anthony Claggett (6-3, 5.64) to the mound against Boulders RHP Jon Velasquez (5-6, 4.15). It is the Mayan End of the World presented by Shock Top Beer. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
