SHREVEPORT, LA (July 15, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints can now enjoy their two days off for the All-Star break as they got a double header sweep of the Shreveport Sports on Sunday afternoon at Fairgrounds Field. The Saints took game one 4-3 and won game two 7-4.

In game one with the game tied at three in the seventh the bats in the middle of the line up came up big. With one out Adam Bourassa singled to center and that was followed by an RBI double from Marcel Longmire which gave the Saints the lead.

Closer Tony Pierce, who has a save in each of his last four appearances, did the job again retiring the side in order to pick up his seventh save of the season.

The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first when Scooter Jordan and Ben Thomas drew back-to-back walks. Adam Bourassa's fielders choice put runners at the corners and then Longmire's ground out to short scored Jordan which made it 1-0. Brian Sprout followed with an RBI single and Adam Olow tacked on an RBI double to finish the scoring in the inning.

Brian Whinnery cruised through the first four innings, not allowing a hit. The only base runner was an error by Alex Fonseca in the second, but Whinnery erased that runner on a double play. Whinnery got into trouble in the fifth, however, giving up his first hit to the lead off man in the inning Tommy Bryant who doubled off the left field wall. J.P. Schmidt brought home the first run with a single to center and he advanced to second on Ryan Priddy's error on the play. With one out Wade Robinson singled Schmist to third and Bryan Cooksey's infield single scored Schmidt making it 3-2. After Brandon Hudson singled to load the bases, two batters later Jack Joffrion singled off of Priddy's glove, scoring Robinson tying the game at three.

In game two, with the Saints trailing 2-1 in the second they exploded for five runs off of All-Star pitcher Matt Yeatman. Fonseca led off with a single to left and advanced to third on a double by Skip Adams. Ryan Priddy's sacrifice fly tied the game at two. Jordan, who extended his streak of reaching base safely to 41 in the first inning with a single, walked to put runners at first and second. Ben Thomas singled home Adams to give the Saints a 3-2 lead. The Saints then got two gift runs when Adam Bourassa hit a grounder to first. Justin Humphries' throw to second tipped off of the shortstops glove and went into left field allowing Jordan to score. The shortstop, Wade Robinson, picked up the ball and threw wildly to third allowing Thomas to score. The Saints finished the five run inning on an RBI ground out by Longmire.

That was all the Saints needed as starter Charlie Ruud went 5.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven to pick up his sixth victory of the season.

The Saints have Monday and Tuesday off for the All-Star break and will return home Wednesday evening at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Sioux City Explorers. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Hats Off to Hasselhoff and the first 2,500 will receive a Saints team card set.
