Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The St. Paul Saints (20-19) dismantled the Saltdogs (21-18) 17-8 to complete the series sweep in front of 5,596 fans at Midway Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Following a 39 minute rain delay in the bottom of the first, the Saints scored six times in the third, and seven in the fourth to take a 13-1 lead. St. Paul hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the third, a feat they had not accomplished since Daryl Strawberry played for the club in 1996.
Luke Anderson (2-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits to earn the win. Moises Melendez (2-1) surrendered 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 to suffer the loss.
Daniel Carroll and David Espinosa each hit long balls for the Saltdogs. Stephen Douglas and Brian Embery turned in multi-hit performances.
The Saints hit five home runs, which matched a season-high allowed for the 'Dogs. The 17 runs came on 20 hits, both were highs for Saltdogs pitching.
The 'Dogs were swept for the first time all season.
