ST. PAUL, MN (May 30, 2010) - Before embarking on their 11 day, nine game roadtrip the Saints needed to take care of a little business with the first place Sioux Falls Pheasants on Sunday evening at Midway Stadium, unfortunately, they will embark on that trip with a 6-2 loss in front of 6,258.

The Pheasants entered play on Sunday night with the league's best ERA at a shade under 2.00, but it was the Saints who struck first in the first when Coby Smith walked, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Josh Alley. Saints starter Jake Schmidt made that hold up until the fourth.

Reggie Abercrombie led off with a single to left and stole second. Beau Torbert followed with a walk and Brandon Sing's single to center scored Abercrombie tying the game at one.

In the fifth the Pheasants took the lead when Tim Hutting led off with an infield single to short. Joe Anthonsen singled him to second and Gus Milner's sacrifice bunt got past Schmidt and went for a single which loaded the bases. After a strikeout to Abercrombie it looked like Schmidt would get Sing, who popped one up into foul territory, but Saints catcher Gerard Haran had a tough time with it and couldn't make the catch. Sing came through with his second chance singling home two runs and giving the Pheasants a 3-1 lead.

In the sixth the Pheasnats made it 4-1 when Hunter Jobes led off with a double to right. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third and two batters later Jobes scored on Anthonsen's infield single.

The Saints answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run, but could have gotten more. Smith led off with an infield single and with one out Ole Sheldon walked. A single by Jason Cooper loaded the bases and extended Cooper's hitting streak to 10. Brent Krause's fielder's choice scored a run to make it 4-2 and the inning ended without further damage when Haran grounded into a fielder's choice.

The Saints have Monday off and begin their roadtrip on Tuesday at Pelican Park at 6:45 p.m. The Saints send LHP Ryan Morse (0-0, 3.38) to the mound. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
