Jason Jones Signs With Nationals

Jason Jones is one step closer to the big leagues. Jones signed with the Harrisburg Senators-Double A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Jones only gave up one run in 2 starts this season for the Pelicans. He pitched brilliantly in 13 and 2/3 innings and was 1-0 with an 0.68 ERA in a Pelican jersey.

Jason Jones was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 4th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft in 2004. The 6'5 225 LB right hander spent six seasons in the Yankees organization, playing at all levels. In 2009, he was with the Rochester Red Wings, triple-A affiliate for the Minnesota Twins. His standout season to date came in 2008, where he split time between double-A and triple-A. With a record of 13-8, Jones posted an ERA of 3.26, and struck out 102 batters, while walking only 50, in 160 innings pitched. He has a career total of 455 strikeouts and 181 walks entering the season.

In 2007, he ranked eighth in the Eastern League in ERA and third on the team in innings pitched (131 2/3). He was named Eastern League "Pitcher of the Week" and began the season by going 8-4 with a 2.45 ERA (99.0IP, 27ER) in 20 appearances.

Jones graduated from Liberty University prior to being drafted in 2004. He was born and raised in Maryland.

The Pelicans return home for nine games in ten days, starting on Tuesday, June 1. The Saint Paul Saints will visit the Pelicans for a three game home stand, followed by the Fort Worth Cats. The Pelicans have Monday off before a three game home stand against El Paso Diablos.
