St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The St. Paul Saints are closing the month of June with a flourish as they picked up their fifth straight win on Saturday night with a 6-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Saints starting pitcher Mark Hamburger has been strong over his last few starts and continued that trend against the Canaries. He cruised through the first six innings allowing just an unearned run in the fourth. He ran into some trouble in the seventh, but got help from his defense. After back-to-back singles by Cory Morales and Marcos Rodriguez put runners on the corners with nobody out, Brad Boyer made a fine defensive play at third. Jared Clark hit a grounder towards the third base line, Boyer dove, got up and fired to second for the first out and Dan Kaczrowski whipped the ball to first for a double play. The run scored that made it 6-2 Saints, but there were now two outs and nobody on. Tim Pahuta then launched a homer to right, his 12th of the season, but the damage was far less than it could have been without the fine defensive play from Boyer. Hamburger went 7.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits while walking three and striking out six. He has pitched at least 6.0 innings in seven of nine starts and at least 7.0 innings in five of nine starts.

With the Saints leading 1-0 in the third Kaczrowski singled with one out. Adam Frost singled him to second. Frost finished the night 3-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Joey Becker grounded one up the middle that scored Kaczrowski and sent Frost to third to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Boyer's RBI ground out made it 3-0.

In the fifth the Saints took a 4-0 lead on a bizarre play. With one out Kaczrowski doubled and moved to third on a bunt single by Frost. With Frost running Becker hit a fly ball to left that was caught by JP Ramirez. Frost had already touched second and was racing back to first. Kaczrowski tagged from third to score and Ramirez' throw to first doubled up Frost, but not before Kaczrowski scored before the out was recorded.

The Saints hit two solo homers, one by Boyer in the sixth, his sixth of the season and one by Dwight Childs in the seventh, his fourth of the season. Boyer went 2-4 with three RBI while Childs fourth homer equals his four year career total.

The final game of the three game series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (4-4, 6.80) to the mound against Canaries RHP Kyle Ruwe (3-5, 4.91). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
