Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Canaries' 6-3 loss to the St. Paul Saints on Saturday night at the Birdcage pushed a losing streak to seven games for the second time this season.

The Saints (22-19) grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed after that. St. Paul continued to build their lead, tallying two runs in the third inning and adding singletons in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

St. Paul leadoff hitter Adam Frost started the game with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and later came home on Brad Boyer's groundout. Frost was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Boyer was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI.

The Canaries mustered a run in the fourth inning on Stephen King's groundout. Cory Morales singled and scored on a double play in the seventh, and Tim Pahuta added a solo home run for his 12th blast of the year. Pahuta is tied for the team lead with 12 home runs. He went 2-for-4, and he is hitting a blistering .402 in June.

St. Paul starter Mark Hamburger (2-2) had a quality start. He held the Birds to three runs, two earned, on nine hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out six. St. Paul relievers Mikey Mehlich and Matt Meyer each tossed a perfect inning of relief, and Meyer notched his ninth save of the year.

Canaries starter Adam Champion (3-3) took the loss, allowing six runs and eight hits in seven innings. He did not walk anybody and struck out four.

The finale of the three-game series is at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at Sioux Falls Stadium. It's a Family Funday, where kids run the bases after the game and players sign postgame autographs. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN and kwsn.com.
