Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (41-12-3-5, 90 pts) out-slugged the Waterloo Black Hawks (35-25-0-1, 71 pts) to clinch their fifth-straight Cowbell Cup title with a 6-3 victory on Friday night.

As he has all season, Noah Powell led the way offensively for the Saints on Friday night with his fourth hat trick of the season. Powell's 43 goals lead the league and are the most scored by a Fighting Saint in a single-season in the franchise's Tier-I history.

Powell opened the scoring early just after a power-play chance for the Saints, scoring his 41st of the season. After Erik Påhlsson's first of two tallies, Powell scored his second just after the halfway mark of the second. Matthew Desiderio lifted the Saints' lead to 4-0 just 30 seconds after Powell's second of the night.

Late in the period, after Waterloo made it a 4-1 game, Powell finished off the hat trick with his 43rd. The goal made Powell the Saints' all-time Tier-I leader in career power-play goals with his 16th, all this season.

Påhlsson added an empty-netter in the third after a pair of Waterloo goals made it a 5-3 Saints lead and Dubuque took the 6-3 win.

The Fighting Saints scored twice on eight power-plays on Friday night and Kevin Reidler made 26 saves in his 27th victory of the season.

The Saints complete their regular season on Saturday night with a matchup at home against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
