Saginaw Spirit Fall in Hard Fought Overtime Game against the London

The Saginaw Spirit came home to the Dow Event Center after a three game road trip to take on the London Knights falling 3-2 in overtime.

Dylan Sadowy scored the lone goal of the first period for the Saginaw Spirit at 14:29. Assists on the play came from Mitchell Webb and Connor Brown. Tough defense by the Saginaw Spirit kept the London Knights out of the net through the first. Shots on goal at the end of the first favored the Spirit 17-13.

The second period also featured a defensive battle on both sides of the puck. Each team had two power plays but couldn't find the back of the net with strong goaltending on either side. Shots on goal for the second period favored the London Knights 13-11.

Both teams in the 3rd period came out aggressively and hard hitting. London's Mitchell Marner had a shorthanded goal with an assist by Christian Dvorak at 5:58. The Spirit then struck with a man advantage as Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy fired one past Londons' Michael Giugovaz on a power play at 10:28. Tye Felhaber and Nick Moutrey assisted on the play. London responded quickly to tie the game up at 2-2 with a goal by Dakota Mermis, assisted by Victor Mete at 14:18. Shots on goal for the 3rd favored the Spirit 13-10.

Heading into overtime the London Knights continued a power play and ended the game as Brett Welychka fought his way in to score the game-winning goal at 1:06. Assists on the play went to Max Domi and Christian Dvorak. Final shots on goal favored the Saginaw Spirit 41-38.

The Saginaw Spirit will host the Peterborough Petes at the Dow Event Center Sunday, October 12th with the puck dropping at 4pm. Saginaw will then travel to the WFCU Centre on Thursday, October 16th to take on the Windsor Spitfires. Game time is set at 7:05pm.
