Owen Sound Attacks Wolves
October 11, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Owen Sound Attack made their only appearance of the season in Sudbury Friday night to take on the Wolves. The Wolves have been struggling offensively as of late and were looking to get back in the win column, while the Attack were coming off a overtime win over the North Bay Battalions the previous night. Prior to the game, the Sudbury Wolves celebrated their fans with the Travelodge Fan Fest for being named the best fans in the Ontario Hockey League for the second straight year. Fans were treated to a free BBQ, face painting, live music and prizes.
In the first frame, the Attack got off to a fast start when PETRUS PALMU put the puck past Wolves' netminder just 2 minutes into the period. The Attack continued their dominating play throughout the period and would close out the frame with a 3-0 lead over the Wolfpack. Shots on goal were 14-7 in the first.
The second period of play continued to be penalty filled for the Wolves. SAMUEL TANGUAY made an incredible save to start the penalty kill. Things got heated up when DANNY DESROCHERS and JEFFREY GILLIGAN dropped their gloves and had the crowd on their feet. Veteran defenceman JEFFREY CORBETT used this momentum to put one past Attack goaltender MICHAEL MCNIVEN, making the score 4-1. Shots on goal after the second were 30-14 in favour of the Attack.
In the third and final frame, overage forward, NATHAN PANCEL put the rebound from JEFFREY CORBETT past the Attack goaltender within the early minutes to bring the Wolves within two. That was as close as they would come as Owen Sound took control of the game and notched 4 more goals to walk away with an 8-2 win. Final shots on goal were 48-27 in favour of Owen Sound.
The Wolves will now try to find their feet as they head out on the road for four games. They will kick things off when they travel to Barrie Saturday to take on the Colts at 7:30pm. Fans can tune into the live play-by-play on KFM 95.5 with STEW KERNAN and MIKE POIRIER. The Wolves will return home on Friday, October 24th when they take on the Peterborough Petes.
