
Saginaw Spirit Defeat Sault Ste. Marie 5-4 at the Dow Event Center

The Saginaw Spirit played host to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Military Appreciation night at the Dow Event Center, taking a 5-4 victory.
The first period saw the teams trade goals within the first five minutes of play. Sault Ste. Marie beat Saginaw's starting goaltender Nikita Serebryakov two minutes into the first on a goal by Gabe Guertler. Assists on the play went to Gustav Bouramman and Zach Senyshyn. The Spirit made it a game when Luke Cairns fed a nice pass to Mitchell Stephens who tied the game at 1. The Greyhounds pulled away from the Spirit at the 4:49 mark when Blake Speers found the back of the net on a power play goal, with assists going to Kyle Jenkins and Sergey Tolchinsky. Sault Ste. Marie put two more tallies on the board before the midway mark of the period. Shots on goal after the first favored Sault Ste. Marie 15-9.
Dylan Sadowy cut into the Greyhound lead for the Spirit at 9:19 of the second period, putting the score at 4-2. Devon Paliani and Connor Brown were credited for the assists. Mitchell Stephens notched his second goal of the game at 14:24, pulling the Spirit up to trail the Greyhounds by one. Assists on the play went to Artem Artemov and Luke Cairns. Saginaw controlled the second period, putting 12 shots on Sault Ste. Marie's starting goaltender Brandon Halverson. The Greyhounds finished the second period with 6 shots on goal.
A power play goal for the Spirit tied the game at 4 early in the third period. Saginaw's Sean Callaghan fired home the tying goal at the 2:51 mark, with the lone assist going to Connor Brown. The Spirit took the lead at 14:05 of the period, after Marcus Crawford earned his first goal of the season. Nick Moutrey took the lone assist on the play. The final score read Saginaw 5, Sault Ste. Marie 4. Final shots on goal favored the Spirit 40-31.
The Saginaw Spirit will play their second home game of the weekend on Sunday, November 2nd as they play host to the Kingston Frontenacs. Puck is scheduled to drop at 4 p.m. at the Dow Event Center.
