Soo Greyhounds News Release
LONDON, ON- A three goal deficit was more than the Soo Greyhounds could overcome on Friday Night, and was also a deficit they faced very early.
The Hounds opened their latest roadtrip on a Halloween Friday Night in London against the Knights.
Christian Dvorak opened the scoring 1:37 into the first period when Mitchell Marner brought the puck around the net before finding Dvorak all alone in the slot. His shot beat starting goaltender BRANDON HALVERSON for the 1-0 lead.
Just thirty-six seconds later London would win the draw, sending the puck to Max Domi who made it a 2-0 London lead firing a shot glove side at 2:13.
Then at 6:16, Chandler Yakimowicz's low, left point shot beat Halverson for the early 3-0 lead.
That would end the evening for the Hounds starting netminder after surrendering three goals on six shots. Joseph Raaymakers would come in relief making 21 saves on 25 shots the rest of the way.
With about eight minutes to go in the first period the two teams traded off chances when JARED MCCANN rung a shot off the post at one end, while Domi replied at the other end of the ice but was stopped at the side of the goal by the outreached left pad of Raaymakers.
The Greyhounds would get on the board with over five minutes to play in the period while on the powerplay. BRYAN MOORE would the draw pack to the blue line where GUSTAV BOURAMMAN quickly set-up DARNELL NURSE's one-time shot that beat Michael Giugovaz to the blocker side cutting the London lead to 3-1.
Then in the final minute, while on the penalty kill, GABE GUERTLER beat the London defender to the puck in the Knights zone, circled the net and fed JEAN DUPUY who's slick move opened the door before he put it just wide.
Hounds trailed 3-1 after the opening twenty minutes.
The Greyhounds would start the second period shorthanded, and London would take advantage.
Just thirty-two seconds in, Mitchell McCarron sent the puck from the corner to Raaymakers left where Mitchell Marner fired home the goal, despite the Hounds defense rushing back to get to the man the deficit increased.
Now trailing 4-1 the Hounds showed some push back in a period they would outshoot London 12 to 9.
Less than two minutes after a Greyhound goal was waved off because it was deemed incidental contact with the goaltender, the Hounds cut the lead in half.
With a delayed penalty coming to the Knights, DAVID MILLER fired home his 3rd goal of the season and second of the night, block sider while in close range, to make it a 4-2 game.
For Miller, it was his 1st goal in ten games and he wasn't done yet.
Max Domi replied with just over five to go in the period staking London's lead to 5-2 through two periods.
The third would see a total of five goals to cap off the high-scoring affair.
London would take a 6-2 lead 3:13 into the third period before BRYAN MOORE cut the Knights lead in half.
Skating in on a two-on-one with KEIGAN GOETZ, Moore picked his spot for his 4th goal of the season at 8:17 to make it a 6-3 game.
After a shorthanded goal by the Knights (now 7-3), the Hounds would score quick back-to-back goals midway through the period.
First DAVID MILLER would score his 2nd of the night off the right wing at 11:54 and then SERGEY TOLCHINSKY danced through the zone before wristing a high shot home at 12:30 to cut the lead to 7-5.
The Hounds continued to press and would later call a time-out and pull their goalie for the extra attacker before Michael McCarron sealed the contest with the empty-net goal with 41 seconds to play, and an 8-5 London victory.
The Hounds, who dropped their record to 10 wins, and 4 losses on the season outshot the Knights 36-30 on the night.
