Saginaw Spirit Defeat Guelph 5 to 2 Friday Night

The Saginaw Spirit won Friday night 5 to 2, defeating the Guelph Storm in the first game of a three game road trip. Saginaw jumped out to a 4 - 0 first period lead that included Spirit Goaltender Clint Windsor's stop of a penalty shot by Guelph's Tanner Richard. Windsor made 35 saves on 37 shots and was the first star of the game.

Saginaw's Carlos Amestoy got the Spirit started early with his 3rd goal of the season, at 1:26, with the assist going to Eric Locke. Saginaw added to the lead with goals by Dalton Young on the power play, assisted by Archibald & Trocheck at 10:21. Followed by Vincent Trocheck, unassisted and Justin Kea assisted by Ringuette at 18:19. The Spirit out shot Guelph 16 to 8 in the first taking a 4 to 0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, Guelph got on the scoreboard with a power play goal by Zak Mitchell, assisted by Finn and Menard at 14:45. The Storm out shot Saginaw 14 to 6 but could not beat Windsor again.

In the third, Vincent Trocheck scored his 2nd goal of the game, 25th of the season, on a power play with assists from Brandon Saad and Brad Walch at 2:41. Guelph answered with a goal from Andrey Pedan assisted by Menard & Mitchell at 10:18 but could get no closer.

Saginaw now has 49 points in 49 games and improved its record to 22 wins, 22 losses, 0 overtime losses and 5 shootout losses. Ten Spirit players picked up points on the night led by Vincent Trocheck's 2 goals and 1 assist.
