Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have assigned goaltender Dany Sabourin to Providence and reassigned goalie Matt Dalton from Providence to the ECHL's Reading Royals. With the moves, the P-Bruins continue to have 26 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, 10 defensemen and two goaltenders.
Sabourin, 29, earned his first recall to the parent Bruins on March 5 and served as the back-up goalie to Tim Thomas in Boston's games on March 6 and March 7. The veteran net-minder has appeared in 44 games for the P-Bruins this season with a record of 23-20-0, three shutouts, a 2.63 goals-against-average and a.914 save percentage. In 11 pro seasons, Sabourin has played in 57 NHL games with the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins, compiling an 18-25-4 mark and 2.87 GAA. He split the 2008-09 campaign between Pittsburgh, where he went 6-8-2 in 19 outings, and the AHL's Springfield Falcons, showing a 5-6-2 record. The native of Val d'Or, Quebec, was selected by Calgary 108th overall in round four of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by the Bruins as a free agent on July 7, 2009.
Dalton, 23, appeared in two games during his second stint in Providence, going 0-0-1 with a 1.33 GAA and.955 save percentage. The rookie goalie stopped all 14 shots he faced in 25:01 in relief of Kevin Regan on March 6 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before suffering a 3-2 shootout loss on March 7 against the Lowell Devils. In six AHL games this season, Dalton is 0-4-1 with a 3.26 GAA and.904 save percentage. He has spent the majority of the year with Reading, compiling a 17-18-2 record, 3.55 GAA and.905 save percentage. He has also enjoyed two recalls to Boston but has yet to appear in an NHL game. Dalton, a native of Clinton, Ontario, was signed by Boston as a free agent on April 22, 2009 after playing two seasons for the Bemidji State University Beavers, where his 2.29 GAA is the best in school history.
Providence returns to action with three games against the East Division this week, beginning Friday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m. for St. Patty's T-Shirt Night. On Saturday, the P-Bruins travel to New York to take on the Adirondack Phantoms at 7 p.m. Then, Providence hosts the Binghamton Senators at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday for another Amica Lip Balm Night.
