LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Providence (3/5): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 31-of-32 shots as the Manchester Monarchs edged the Providence Bruins, 2-1, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Left wingers Dwight King and David Meckler tallied for the Monarchs. Right wing Jordan Knackstedt scored the lone goal for the Bruins. Bernier (26-16-5) earned his 26th win of the season with 31 saves on 32 shots. Providence goaltender Kevin Regan (8-8-0) took his eighth loss of the season with 29 saves on 31 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Bridgeport (3/7): Defenseman Jon Gleed scored his first goal of the season, the game-winner, as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 2-1, in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Rookie center Corey Elkins scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Defenseman Jake Gannon joined his fellow blueliner on the scoreboard for Bridgeport. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (26-17-5) took his 17th loss of the season with 28 saves on 30 shots. Sound Tigers netminder Nathan Lawson (13-12-3) earned his 13th win of the season with 26 saves on 27 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (34-22-3-5) are ranked third in the Atlantic Division with 76 points. The Worcester Sharks (38-20-2-3, 81 points) lead the Atlantic Division with 81 points followed by the Portland Pirates (35-21-5-3) with 78 points.

The Atlantic Division standings are tight with the top four teams only separated by seven points.

The Monarchs are 20-10-1-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.

Manchester is 4-5-1-0 in their last 10 games.

The Monarchs penalty kill is ranked fourth in the AHL. They have given up 36 goals in 263 attempts when their opponent has had the man advantage.

Their power play is ranked sixth in the league with 47 goals on 241 opportunities with the man advantage.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent in 46-of-64 games thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 18-1-1-0 when scoring the first goal on home ice.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (8-18=26) leads Monarchs blueliners and ranks fourth overall on the team with 26 points.

Defenseman Drew Bagnall (2-8=10) leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-13.

Right wing Scott Parse (4-11=15), who was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, March 3, ranks second on the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-11.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth's career-high 23 points (11-12=23) have moved him into sole possession of fifth place on the Monarchs roster, narrowly above center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-11=22) who returned from the Kings on Wednesday, March 3.

Cliche recorded his team leading third shorthanded goal of the season in the team's 4-0 blanking of the Providence Bruins on Saturday, February 20. His three shorthanded goals are also tied for fifth in the AHL.

Rookie left wing Dwight King's (7-12=19) four-game point streak came to an end on Sunday when he was held off the scoreboard. King collected a goal and three assists for four points in fours games.

Left wing David Meckler (11-8=19) has picked up the team's last two game-winning goals.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 26-17-5 in 49 games of the season. His 26 wins are ranked fifth in the AHL.

Bernier's eight shutouts lead the AHL.

Bernier is ranked second in the league with a 2.01 goals-against-average and is ranked first with a.939 save percentage.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has played in 17 games for the Monarchs this season, recording an 8-8-0 record, a 2.80 goals-against-average, a.919 save percentage and two shutouts.
