Ryan Named Tribe's July Player of the Month

INDIANAPOLIS -- Outfielder Michael Ryan has been named Indianapolis Indians Player of the Month for July. He will receive a custom-made watch -- courtesy of Windsor Jewelers -- before Saturday night's game against Toledo.
Ryan recorded a .299 batting average, .691 slugging percentage, an International League-best 10 home runs, 25 RBI and 67 total bases during the fourth month of the season. He also tallied 10 multi-hit performances and knocked in more than one run on seven occasions.
Ryan tied for fifth in the league with 19 runs during the month. The 6-foot, 190-pound left-hander turned in three straight multi-run and multi-hit games from July 26-28 -- July 26 (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI), July 27 (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and July 28 (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI).
"Michael had a terrific month of July and is very deserving of this honor," Indians Manager Trent Jewett says. "Michael didn't get regular playing time at the beginning of the year, but I told him to stay ready. That's exactly what he did, and, now, he's a big piece of our offense."
Ryan owns a .260 BA with 15 homers and 44 RBI through 99 contests this season. His long-ball total and .484 slugging percentage tie for eighth in the circuit. The Indiana, Pa., native is hitting .254 with two dingers and six RBI against left-handed pitchers and .266 with 13 roundtrippers and 38 RBI vs. right-handed hurlers.
"Michael is playing with a lot of confidence right now," Jewett adds. "He's a true professional, and has kept a positive attitude throughout the season. You have to give Michael a lot of credit because it's not easy to produce when you're not in the line-up every day."
Ryan was a member of the Minnesota Twins during the 2003 American League Division Series. The 30-year-old owns a .265 BA with seven HR and 33 RBI in 127 Major League tilts.
Ryan is in his first season with the Pirates organization after signing as a Minor League free agent on Oct. 31, 2006.
