
Clippers blank Braves

Richmond, VA - The Columbus Clippers beat the Richmond Braves 2-0 Saturday at The Diamond. Three Columbus pitchers combined for the shutout, despite surrendering nine hits, to win the first of a four game series.
The Clippers scored a run in the first on an RBI single by Abraham Nunez. Columbus added a run in the fifth on a Larry Broadway sacrifice fly. Meanwhile the Braves had at least one baserunner in every inning and leadoff hits in five innings but advanced only one runner past second base.
Chris Michalak pitched seven innings and did not walk a man to earn the win. Chris Booker notched a save. Tanyon Sturtze, pitching on a rehab assignment, took the loss. Five Braves pitchers combined to claim 13 strikeouts. Brandon Jones, Barbaro Canizares, and Gregor Blanco had two hits each for Richmond. Brandon Watson had two hits for the Clippers.
