
Rush Top Eagles 3-2 In First Meeting In Rapid City

Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - On Tuesday, the Rapid City Rush dropped the Colorado Eagles by a score of 3-2 in the first meeting between the two squads at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Eagles loss marks only the second regulation loss for Colorado this season.
The first period was evenly contested as both sides had a number of chances on net and the Rush with a slight shot advantage 12-10. The Rush got the scoring started as a flurry in front led to a rebound chance for Colt King who collected his team-leading 8th goal of the season. Assisting on the goal were Les Reaney and Luke Erickson who collected his 100th regular-season point.
In the second, the Rush increased the offensive pressure as Rich Hansen doubled the lead just 5:55 in. Derek Campbell made the play behind the net and centered to Hansen who made a deke past Andrew Penner for the goal. Erickson, Reaney and King then each collected their second point of the game at 15:15. King kept the puck down low and Reaney centered to Erickson who redirected top shelf to make it 3-0 Rapid City heading into the final period.
The Eagles would not go down without a fight as Alex Penner scored an unassisted marker to make it a 3-1 contest just 4:51 in. Then at 11:21, Ryan Tobler sent home a rebound off of an Aaron Schneekloth shot to cut the lead to just one. The Eagles outshot the Rush 12-5 over the final period, but Rapid City would hold off the Colorado attack for the final eight minutes which included powerplay chance with just over 3 minutes left. The Rush would win a pivotal faceoff with just 3 seconds left to seal the 3-2 win.
Danny Battochio made 30 saves for his third win on the season. The Rush ended the evening scoreless on five powerplay chances while the Eagles went 0-for-2. The Rush held the edge in final shots 34-32.
The Rush take on the Eagles once again, this time Friday, the 20th at 7:05pm. That night will be "Military Appreciation Night" and the Rush will be sporting special camouflage themed jerseys for the game.
