
Jacks Top Amarillo In Shootout, 6-5

(Odessa, TX) - In a see-saw battle between two Central Hockey League conference rivals, the Odessa Jackalopes outlasted the Amarillo Gorillas for a 6-5 shootout win on Tuesday night at the Ector County Coliseum. It was the Jackalopes' eighth straight win to improve their record to 11-1-1 on the year.
The scoring began in period one when Kenny Bernard's bad angle shot from the corner slipped past Mike Brown at 13:30 to make it 1-0, Odessa. Alex Dunn and Mike Lesperance had the assists on Bernard's ninth of the season. The Gorillas tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal from Jake Morissette at 18:42 as both teams entered the intermission tied up.
Both teams continued to trade goals in the second period as Jake Obermeyer and Anthony Battaglia scored for Amarillo; while Paul Kelly and Mike Lesperance answered for Odessa - making the score 3-3 after two.
In the third, Collin Circelli pulled Odessa ahead at 7:11, but less than two minutes later, Andrew Smale knotted the game once again for the Gorillas. Alex Dunn added a power play marker midway through the period in a crowd in front of the net only the have Smale add a shorthanded goal, and his second of the game, to force overtime at 5-5.
After a scoreless overtime, both teams entered the shootout. Dominic Leveille and Mike Ramsay each scored for Odessa while Joel Martin was perfect to give Odessa the win in four rounds.
Bernard's goal was his ninth in the last 10 games. Joel Martin has been in net for all four of Odessa's shootouts this season winning three of them. Lesperance's goal in the second period was a power play marker making it 11 consecutive games now Odessa has scored with a man-advantage.
The Jacks host the Texas Brahmas on Thursday at 7:05 PM. It's the first meeting between the two teams since game seven of last season's Southern Conference Finals. A fundraiser will also be held for paralyzed Permian High Football players, Julio Rangel. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
