Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release


The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (6-4-2) return home after a five-day, four-game road trip for a game against the Corpus Christi IceRays (4-5-2). Tonight's game is the fifth in seven days for RGV and the start of a four-game homestand. RGV went 1-1-2 on the road trip and currently is in fourth place in the Southern Conference. Corpus Christi wraps up a four-game road stint tonight. The IceRays split games at Arizona over the weekend after winning at Allen on Nov. 7. Corpus is seventh out of eight teams in the South.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

. CLOSE TO A MILLION --- The countdown is on for the one millionth fan. Entering this season, the Killer Bees, in 190 total openings RGV had welcomed 934,686 fans into the Hive for an average attendance of 4922 (regular season). RGV's total regular season attendance in 196 total openings is 960,829. The Killer Bees will play their 200th regular season home game on Nov. 25 vs. Bossier-Shreveport.

. RYCROFT HAS POINTS IN 8 --- Daymen Rycroft has points (3-12-15) in eight straight games.

. GOECKNER-ZOELLER'S SCORING STREAK SNAPPED --- Grant Goeckner-Zoeller's eight-game scoring streak was snapped at Laredo on Nov. 15. He had 13 points (6-7-13) during his streak.

. BENNEFIELD FINDING STRIDE --- Jesse Bennefield has six goals in his last five games.

. SAWATSKE STEADY --- Tom Sawatske has been even or better in 10 of 12 games this season. His only two games with a minus rating were minus-1 outings.

. SCOTT BACK IN LINEUP --- Topher Scott was activated from the 14-day IR on Nov. 15 after missing five games with a leg injury.

. WHO'S FIRST? --- The Killer Bees are 4-1-0 when scoring first this season. RGV scored the first goal of the game in five-straight before allowing Missouri to draw first blood on Nov. 7.

. POWER UP - The RGV power play has scored at least a goal in nine of 12 games this season (3-for-18 last weekend).

. ALL-TIME MARK --- RGV is 169-184-39 (392 games).

RGV RECENT GAMES

NOV. 15, 2009, LAR 3, RGV 2 (SO) ---Jesse Bennefield scored twice for RGV while Eric Giosa scored both Laredo goals in regulation. Daryl Smith scored the game-winner in the shootout. It was the third time in four games the teams went to a shootout.

NOV. 14, 2009, RGV 5, TEX 2---RGV went 3-for-9 on the power play while Grant Goeckner-Zoeller (2), Nathan Ansell, Shaun Landolt and Jesse Bennefield scored. Wylie Rogers made 40 saves in the win.

NOV. 13, 2009, ODE 5, RGV 2 ---RGV's five-game undefeated in regulation streak was snapped. Zak McClellan and Stacey Bauman scored for RGV. The Bees allowed two power play goals on six chances while being held scoreless on six chances.

NOV. 7, 2009, RGV 4, MIZ 3 (OT) --- Daymen Rycroft scored 2:24 into overtime to give RGV a 4-3 win over Missouri on Nov. 7. Nathan Ansell assisted on all four goals while the RGV penalty kill held the Mavericks 0-for-12. RGV's power play went 3-for-9.

NOV. 6, 2009, RGV 6, MIZ 2 --- Justin Kanigan, Sean Muncy and Andrew Schembri (2 goals) each scored their first pro goals as RGV beat Missouri 6-2 on Nov. 6 at Dodge Arena. RGV scored twice on the power play. Daymen Rycroft (1-2-3), Sean Muncy (1-1-2), Tom Sawatske (0-2-2) and Zak McClellan (0-2-2) joined Schembri as multiple point-getters.
