Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush hosted "Pink at the Rink Night" in which Rush players sported special pick jerseys, sponsored by Neugebauer's Fine Jewelry, that were auctioned off after the game. Coupled with the efforts of R.G. Flath and the rest of the players, the Rush are proud to announce that over $50,000 has been raised to help in the fight against breast cancer. All of the money raised will be split among the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation of South Dakota and the Rapid City Regional Hospital Foundation.
"With a disease that has touched so many people, including several within our organization, it has been a privilege to be a part of a very special evening where we were able to raise an incredible amount of money for a tremendous cause," said Coach Joe Ferras. "The players shaving their heads shows their enthusiasm and continued commitment to the community that has shown them such great support."
On Saturday night, in addition to the pink jerseys, proceeds from "Chuck a Puck" and program sales were also included in the money raised for local breast cancer treatment and research. Rush forward R.G. Flath was unable to be in the lineup on Saturday night, but was still able to contribute in a big way. Flath was able to raise over $10,000 after he organized nine Rush players and Assistant General Manager Tim Hill to have their heads shaved if the goal was reached. During the second intermission of Saturday's contest, Flath was the first to sacrifice his hair.
"I think it's great that the community has shown so much support," said R.G. Flath. "I appreciate all of the contributions over the weekend from our Rush fans and supporters. It's great to be a part of such a successful event and organization."
Back on January 17th , the Rush wore special Mardi Gras themed jerseys that were auctioned off after the game against New Mexico. On that night, $11,600 was raised to benefit the local Naja Shriners.
"First of all, I would like to thank the Rapid City community for showing so much support for this great cause," said Rapid City Assistant GM Tim Hill. "It feels great to able to help raise over $50,000 for the local community and we will continue to do our best for years to come."
