Rapid City Rush News Release

(Bloomington, IL) - On Sunday night, the Rapid City Rush were dealt their third loss in as many nights, falling to the Bloomington PrairieThunder by a score of 5-2. Garret Klotz scored the second hat trick of the season against the Rush while goaltender Marco Emond made 35 saves in the win. The Rush received goals from Derek LeBlanc and Andrew Smale, who scored his first of the season. The Rush now battle the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available for the contest.

The PrairieThunder were the first to strike, lighting the lamp 5:19 into the contest. Scoring the goal was Garrett Klotz who capitalized on a defensive zone miscue to pick up his second of the season. The PrairieThunder led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes, despite being outshot 15-10 by the Rush.

After over 25 minutes of scoreless play, the Rush finally evened the score midway through the second period. Andrew Smale slid home his first goal of the season after a rush into the offensive zone led to a scoring chance from the left side of the crease. Bloomington would regain the lead at the 17:04 mark when Jamie Lovell fired a slap shot from the left point to collect his second goal of the season. Heading into the final period, the Rush were down 2-1 despite outshooting the PrairieThunder 27-17.

In the final stanza, the Rush tied the score and gained momentum, only to have it stripped away twenty seconds later. At the 5:26 mark, Ryan Menei's cross-ice pass was sent home by Derek LeBlanc from the right faceoff dot for a powerplay goal and 2-2 tie. On the next shift, Garrett Klotz scored his second of the game on a play set up by Jamie Lovell and Brodie Sheahan, giving Bloomington a 3-2 lead. With less than ten minutes left, Sheahan picked up a goal of his own while on the powerplay, doubling the lead by backhanding a shot home from the top of the crease. Finally Klotz completed the hat trick by scoring an empty-net goal with sixteen seconds remaining, as the Rush had pulled Battochio for the extra-attacker. In all the Rush outshot the PrairieThunder 37-25, but dropped the contest 5-2.
