
Komets Swamp RiverKings 6-1; Dupuis Claims Records

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets swamped the visiting RiverKings 6-1 Sunday at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne before 7,429 to snap a four-game home winless string and extend the K's unbeaten streak to five games. Fort Wayne has points in 11 of their last dozen games (7-1-4) for a .750 pace since Dec. 22.
Fort Wayne netted six unanswered goals before the second intermission and took advantage of the power plays posting four goals on six man advantages. Tab Lardner netted a pair while Frankie DeAngelis, Danny Lapointe, P.C. Drouin and Kaleigh Schrock each contributed power play markers for Fort Wayne. DeAngelis, Lapointe and Drouin each added assists and Colin Chaulk dished a pair for two-point nights. Derek Patrosso had a three-point evening with three helpers. Jeff Christian scored Mississippi's lone goal, the only goal of the third frame, at 7:37 on the power play.
Kevin Reiter earned his third win of the season for Fort Wayne stopping 37 of 38 shots. Larry Sterling started in the Mississippi net and allowed six goals on 17 shots during the first 40 minutes of play and suffered his seventh loss of the season before being chased in favor of Alexan Pechurskiy Pechurskiy served between the RiverKing pipes for the third period stopping all nine shots faced.
Guy Dupuis registered an assist in Sunday's 6-1 home win over Mississippi for points in each of the three games played during a special week for the veteran defenseman. Dupuis reached his record 1000th Fort Wayne career game Saturday at Bloomington before dishing an assist Sunday for his 436th Fort Wayne career assist, to claim all Fort Wayne records of goals, assists, and points scored by a Fort Wayne defenseman in regular season action and in regular season and playoff play combined. For the record, Dupuis has regular season Komet defenseman records of 119 goals, 404 assists and 523 points. In Fort Wayne regular season and playoff games combined Dupuis has 132 goals, 436 assists and 568 points in 1,001 games.
The Komets improve to 12-16-5 for 29 points at the half-way point of the campaign and pull even with Evansville for playoff position with 33 games remaining in the regular season.
In the week ahead, the Komets will host Missouri Wednesday at 7:30pm. Friday the Komets travel back to Bloomington to face the PrairieThunder at 8:05pm ET and Saturday the Komets will host Bloomington at 7:30pm before a two-week absence from home ice while the Circus is in town.
