Rush Fall in Arizona 4-2

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - The Rapid City Rush and Arizona Sundogs kicked off a four-game series on Wednesday night at Tims Toyota Center. The Sundogs took the first meeting of the season with a 4-2 decision in Prescott Valley. The two teams will meet again on Friday at 7:05pm.

Rush defenseman Riley Weselowski entered the game with no goals in 50 regular season contests for the Rush. The Pilot Mount, Manitoba native finally got on the board at the 17:42 mark of the first period, firing a slapshot from the high slot, giving the Rush a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Sundogs would tie the score just 21 seconds into the second period when Kyle Hood scored his first of two on the evening. Joey Sides broke into the offensive zone and slid a pass over to Hood at the right circle for the one-timer that rang off the crossbar and in. The Sundogs took a 2-1 lead with just eight second left in the period on a rebound effort from Luke Erickson.

In the final period, Hood would score his second of the game when he redirected a Tyler Butler shot past Danny Battochio, doubling the Arizona lead. The Sundogs would score a fourth-straight goal, a shorthanded effort by Erickson on an empty net as Battochio was pulled for the extra-attacker while on the powerplay. Finally, defenseman Grant Farrell scored a late powerplay goal in just his second game with the Rush to bring the game to its 4-2 final.
