Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Sean Muncy scored with just 3:31 remaining to snap a 3-3 tie and help the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees to a 4-3 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Thursday night at the CenturyTel Center. The loss drops Bossier-Shreveport to 18-8-0 this year and 3-1 against the Killer Bees in the fourth consecutive one-goal game played between the teams.

David Rutherford scored twice and Justin Aikins contributed a goal and an assist in his first game back from an injury as the ‚¬ËœBugs held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first half of the contest. Jamie Milam also chipped in two assists in the losing cause, while both Muncy and Aaron Lewicki posted two-goal games for the Killer Bees.

Justin Aikins got the ‚¬ËœBugs on the board first, poking in the rebound of a Travis Clayton shot at 12:04. Rio Grande Valley tied it a short time later however on Matt Smyth's first goal of the season. The ‚¬ËœBugs re-took the lead during a 5-on-3 powerplay at 15:32 when Aikins fed a pass across to David Rutherford, who banked the puck off Juliano Pagliero to make it 2-1 Mudbugs after one.

The Killer Bees scored on their first two shots of the second period to take over the lead as Lewicki's second goal came at 7:04 and Muncy's first followed at 9:37 to put Rio Grande Valley ahead 3-2. The Mudbugs tied it back up when Shane Hart drove the front of the net to create space for Rutherford, who beat Pagliero blocker-side with a quick wrist shot that gave him a league-most 18 goals this season.

With the game knotted at three for most of the third frame, the Bees went on top to stay with just 3:31 remaining as Muncy picked up a turnover in the Mudbugs' zone and beat Brian Foster from the left circle to make it 4-3. The ‚¬ËœBugs came close to tying it again on a late powerplay but couldn't find the twine in their second straight loss.

Brian Foster (8-4-0) stopped 18 shots in defeat as Bossier-Shreveport outshot Rio Grande Valley 26-22. Juliano Pagliero (10-9-2) earned the "W" with 23 saves. The Mudbugs converted 1 of 5 powerplay opportunities, while the Killer Bees finished 0 for 5.

The same two teams will be right back at it again tomorrow at 7:05 at the CenturyTel Center for the second of this back-to-back set on "Exterminator Night", presented by the Mudbug Boilers Booster Club.
