Rapid City Rush News Release

(Allen, TX) - Down by a pair of goals early to the Allen Americans, the Rapid City Rush had their veterans step up to force extra time and an eventual 3-2 shootout win on Saturday night. Scott Wray and Jarrett Konkle potted the regulation goals while Damian Surma and Winston Day Chief came away with highlight-reel tallies in the shootout to secure the win. Rush goaltender Danny Battochio denied all four shooters for the second straight night and made 27 total saves for his ninth win of the year. The Rush finally conclude their stock show road trip on Tuesday in a game against the Tulsa Oilers. The game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX or foxradio.com.

The Americans came out firing on all cylinders, eventually potting two goals in a twenty-three second span. The opening goal came at 11:23 from Jamie Schaafsma who collected his 15th goal of the year on a slapshot from the top of the right circle. Moments later, Brian McMillin slammed in a rebound from the left side of the net off a shot from Garrett Clarke, doubling the lead. Veteran Jarrett Konkle finally got the Rush on the board at the 17:08 mark, sneaking a shot past Aaron Dell for his team-leading 19th goal of the season, and making it 2-1 after one.

Midway through the second period, Scott Wray lasered a slapshot from the top of the left circle under the glove of Dell for his 17th of the year, forcing an eventual shootout.

In the shootout, Danny Battochio came up big, denying all four shots faced for the second straight night. On the other hand, Damian Surma's counterclockwise stickhandle tally led to the goal by Winston Day Chief whose one-handed effort secured the 3-2 victory for Rapid City.
