
Americans Earn a Point in Shootout Loss to Rapid City

ALLEN, Texas- The Rapid City Rush defeated the Allen Americans 3-2 on Saturday night in a shootout, handing Allen their sixth straight home loss.
During Friday's military appreciation night, the Americans struck first as Jamie Schaafsma scored his 15th goal of the season at 11:23 in the period, with Drew Daniels and Alex Penner picking up the assists. Just 23 seconds later, Allen would extend their lead to 2-0 at 11:46 as Brian McMillin netted his 9th goal of the season from Garrett Clarke and Alex Penner. Rapid City would cut that lead in half before the end of the first, with a goal from Jarrett Konkle at 17:08 in the period, with Jesse Shultz and Jamie VanderVeeken picking up the assists.
Rapid City would have the lone goal in the second period from Scott Wray at 10:30 to tie the score at 2-2, with Jared Brown and Riley Weselowski picking up the assists. Rapid City outshot the Americans 9-5. Neither team would go on to score or be penalized in the third.
After a scoreless sudden death overtime, Allen and Rapid City went to a 5-shot shootout. Damian Surma and Winston Day Chief of Rapid City would go on to score the only two goals in the shootout. This is Allen's sixth straight home loss.
