Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - Anthony Perdicaro scored the third period game winner and added an assist and Neil Conway made 33 saves as the Quad City Mallards scored four unanswered goals on the way to a 5-2 win over the host Missouri Mavericks Saturday night. With the win, the Mallards improved to 19-18-5 (43 points), lifting their record over .500 for the first time since November 25 and extended their regulation unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1).
After the Mallards' Derek Matheson tied the score at two with a wrist shot from the slot at 5:09 of the second period, Quad City would surge past Missouri with three third period goals. The Mallards took a 3-2 lead at 7:46 of the third when Perdicaro buried the rebound after Maverick goaltender Mike Clemente stopped Mickey Lang's breakaway bid. Justin under four minutes later Mike Hellyer rifled home the fourth Mallard goal from the left wing circle. Mike Monfredo- who also had an assist- capped off the win by scoring an empty net goal with just 15 seconds remaining.
The Mallards had first grabbed the lead when Obi Aduba's power play tip-in opened the scoring 11:24 of the first period. The Mavericks responded with a pair of goals separated by just a minute and 27 seconds late in the first to take 2-1 lead into the intermission. Ryan Jardine evened the score from close range at 16:27; at 17:54, Kenton Miller redirected Andrew Courtney's drive from the high slot put the Mavericks on top. Missouri, however, had no answer for the Mallards the rest of the way.
