Ruopp Assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that defenseman Harrison Ruopp has been assigned from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In 16 games with the Penguins this year, Ruopp has posted 32 penalty minutes. A 21-year old rookie from Zehner, Saskatchewan, Ruopp has also collected three assists and 42 PIM over 19 games for Wheeling.

Ruopp was originally a 2011 third-round draft pick (84th overall) of the Phoenix Coyote and acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 22, 2012.

In separate transactions, goaltender Eric Hartzell has been assigned to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) by the Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Alex Boak has been released from his amateur tryout agreement and is expected to join the Nailers.

Hartzell, 24, has allowed only six goals in winning his last three starts with the Nailers and raised his record to 6-4-1 with a 3.08 GAA and a .901 save percentage. The rookie netminder has gone 10-7-1 this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 2.30 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and three shutouts.

In four seasons at Quinnipiac University, the native of White Bear, Minnesota posted a career record of 58-27-17 with a 1.96 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 106 games.

Signed to an ATO by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on March 22, Boak was a four-year letterman for the men's ice hockey team at Clarkson University, where he totaled seven goals, 24 assists and 357 penalty minutes over 148 games. The 24-year from Norwood, New York joined the Penguins after finishing his senior season with the Golden Knights, where he posted five assists over 41 contests.

The Penguins head to Norfolk to battle the Admirals on Friday, March 28 at 7:30pm.
