Rampage Edge Stars 5-4 in Shootout

SAN ANTONIO (March 27, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (27-30-3-6) came from behind to beat the Western Conference-leading Texas Stars 5-4 in a shootout on Thursday night at the AT&T Center. The game was the rescheduled date from the March 1 contest that was suspended due to ice conditions. The game began with 12:01 remaining in the first period and the Stars leading 2-0 off goals from Scott Glennie and Curtis McKenzie.

Wade Megan tallied two power-play goals to earn the Second Star of the Game, Garrett Wilson finished with two assists and Scott Clemmensen, who was playing in his 400th professional game, made 23-of-25 saves. Brendan Ranford's three assists led the Stars.

Derek Hulak, who was playing in his first AHL game, kicked off the scoring Thursday night, taking a pass from Ranford and putting it past Clemmensen on the glove side to give the Stars a 3-0 lead at 13:46.

The Rampage got on the board on a power play late in the period as Mike Mottau picked the puck up off the boards and fired on net, and Wade Megan tipped it past Campbell to make it 3-1 at 16:11.

A great individual effort by John McFarland cut the deficit to one at 6:09 of the second period. McFarland caused a Texas turnover, picking the puck off the boards and bringing it around to the front of the net before punching it past Campbell to make it 3-2.

The Rampage came out strong in the third period, as Jed Ortmeyer tallied his 13th of the season, tipping John Lee's shot from the point to tie the game at three just over four minutes into the frame. The Stars stopped San Antonio's three-goal run late in the third when Derek Meech wristed a shot high past Clemmensen to give the Stars a 4-3 lead.

Megan, Wilson and Butler combined for the Rampage's second power play goal of the night as Megan punched it past Campbell at 14:12 to knot the game at four and send it to overtime.

A bench minor for too many men on the ice gave San Antonio a 4-on-3 power play in the extra frame. The Rampage couldn't convert, forcing a league-leading 17th shootout. Anthony Luciani and Jared Gomes each scored in the skills competition and Clemmensen stopped four of the Stars' five shooters to give the Rampage a 5-4 win. With the victory, San Antonio leads the league with 11 shootout wins on the season.

Texas outshot the Rampage 29-25. San Antonio finished 2-for-4 on the power play and didn't give the Stars a man advantage, the first time this season the Rampage haven't been whistled for a penalty. With 21 overtime games this season, the Rampage tie the franchise record for overtimes, which was previously set in 2007-08.

The Rampage host the Hamilton Bulldogs for Badges Night presented by GovX on Friday.
