Metairie, LA - Former Rummel and University of New Orleans star Thomas Diamond will start Tuesday for the Iowa Cubs as they face the New Orleans Zephyrs at 11:30 a.m.
Diamond leads the Pacific Coast League with 80 strikeouts and a .208 batting average against, and is third in the league with a 2.66 ERA. In 15 starts for the I-Cubs, he has a record of 5-2.
Diamond starred at Archbishop Rummel High School, graduating as an All-State performer in 2001. He went on to UNO, where he finished third on the school's all-time strikeout list in his three-year career. He was selected in the first round, 10th overall, by the Texas Rangers in the 2004 draft.
All fans wearing UNO merchandise or showing a University of New Orleans ID will receive discounted admission of $5.
