PONIES START 2018 ON TOP: Using two first-inning home runs and stellar pitching, Binghamton got past Portland, 6-0, in Thursday night's opener at NYSEG Stadium. Tim Tebow launched a three-run homer on the first pitch of his Double-A career. Peter Alonso and Jeff McNeil added home runs. Four Rumble Ponies pitchers combined to blank Portland.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Andrew Church makes the second start of his Double-A career and first against the Portland Sea Dogs. Last season, Church was assigned to Binghamton for a spot-start in late July. He allowed 10 runs on 10 hits across 4.2 innings in an 11-4 loss to Akron at NYSEG Stadium. In a career-high 25 starts with St. Lucie, Church posted a career-best 12 wins and 95 strikeouts in 2017.

POWER SURGE: Binghamton's 2018 campaign began with a bang, launching three home runs in the season's first two innings. In 2017, Binghamton hit 66 long balls as a team, the second-lowest total in team history.

PITCHING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF: In last year's record-setting season, Ponies pitching recorded a franchise-best 20 shutouts en route to their fourth playoff appearance in five years. Last night's four-pitcher performance limited Portland to just four hits.

TEBOW MANIA: OF Tim Tebow did not disappoint in his highly anticipated Double-A debut, homering on the first pitch he saw from Sea Dogs hurler Teddy Stankiewicz. The former Heisman Trophy winner launched a home run in his first at bat with Columbia (Low-A) last season. He also utilized the long ball in his second game with St. Lucie (High-A)

FOUR'S COMPANY: Starter Drew Gagnon tossed six innings of two-hit baseball Thursday in his Mets organizational debut, before giving way to a trio of relievers. Austin McGeorge, Adonis Uceta, and, Gerson Bautista each pitched a scoreless frame to preserve Binghamton's first-game shutout.

PACK THE HOUSE: 5,247 were in attendance at NYSEG Stadium to witness Binghamton's opening day win over Portland. That makes Thursday night's game the second-largest home opening crowd in Binghamton history. The 1993 home opener saw 6,282 packed inside Binghamton Municipal Stadium. Binghamton last drew 6000-plus fans on 7/28/17 against New Hampshire.

UP NEXT: The Rumble Ponies and Sea Dogs meet again on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. In the third game of the season, RHP Nabil Crismatt is slated to toss for Binghamton against Portland RHP Mike Shawaryn. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 PM.
