June 23, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Akron RubberDucks continued their winning ways Wednesday evening at Canal Park when they won both halves of the traditional doubleheader by scores of 4-2 and 6-4, marking their second six-game win streak of the 2021 campaign.
Turning Point
In game one of the doubleheader, Akron gave up the first run of the ballgame after Erie loaded the bases with three singles and a walk. In the bottom half of the inning, the Ducks answered with three runs of their own thanks to a Richie Palacios sac fly, an Andruw Monasterio single, and an RBI groundout from Bo Naylor to give Akron a 3-1 advantage.
Game 2's turning point came in the fifth inning when Oscar Gonzalez hit a 99 mph rocket over the left field fence for a three-run homer to give the Ducks a 6-4 lead that would hold for the win.
Mound Presence
The Ducks' pitching staff held down a talented Erie SeaWolves lineup in both games of the doubleheader with Tanner Tully turning in five innings of work and allowing only two earned runs on six hits. Following that solid starter from the Ducks starter, Juan Mota entered in the sixth inning and proceeded to strike out five batters and pick up his second save of the season for Akron. In game two, RubberDucks starter Zach Draper saw the talent in the Erie roster as they hit three home runs over the course of four innings. Draper found a way to grind through four innings, keeping the RubberDucks close as he exited with only a one run deficit, 4-3. After Draper, Luke Marman and Jake Miednik were stellar in relief for the Ducks, combining for three innings of scoreless work, allowing only two hits and striking out three SeaWolves.
