Portland, Maine - The Somerset Patriots (28-15) and Portland Sea Dogs (25-18) split Wednesday's doubleheader at Hadlock Field. Portland took game one 5-3, with the Patriots salvaging the split with an 11-3 win in game two.
A four-run fifth inning for the Sea Dogs in game one carried them to a come-from-behind win. The Patriots carried a 3-1 lead heading to the fifth on an Oswald Peraza two-run double in the third and a Michael Beltre (7) solo homer in the fourth.
Tate Matheny (4) tied the game early in the fifth on a two-run homer before a pair of wild pitches later in the inning game Portland a 5-3 lead.
Sea Dogs starter Josh Winckowski (W, 3-1) allowed three runs over five innings to earn the win. Somerset starting pitcher Luis Medina (L, 0-1) struck out five but allowed a season-high five runs over 4.2 innings of work to take the loss. Durbin Feltman (SV, 1) worked a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
In game two, the Patriots got two standout innings to carry them to a win. The team plated six runs on six hits in the third inning to take an early 6-0 lead, highlighted by a Diego Castillo RBI double and two-run singles from Oswaldo Cabrera and Beltre.
Somerset put five more runs on the board in the top of the fifth on a Beltre RBI triple, Thomas Milone RBI double, Castillo RBI single and a run-scoring error from Sea Dogs third baseman Hudson Potts.
On the mound, southpaw Ken Waldichuk (W, 1-0) carried a no-hitter over his first 5.1 innings before allowing a single to Potts and a two-run home run to Matheny (5) to end his night. Overall, the lefty struck out 10 batters on the night to earn his first win as a Patriot.
