Akron RubberDucks News Release
Binghamton's Peter Alonso crushed a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Rumble Ponies to a stunning, 7-6 comeback victory over the Akron RubberDucks Tuesday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The Rumble Ponies (12-10) rallied for four runs in the 9thinning to wipe out a 6-3 Akron lead. Facing Akron's Leandro Linares, Tim Tebow led off with a triple to left field. He scored on a single by Champ Stuart, who collected just his second hit of the season. After a fielder's choice and a walk put a pair of runners on base with one out, right-hander Mitch Brown was summoned to try and close it. Alonso, the reigning EL Player of the Week, smacked a long homer to right field to give the Ponies a 7-6 lead. It was Alonso's eighth of the year and his fifth dinger in the last six games.
Mound Presence
Brown (0-1) was also charged with the blown save. It was the first run he has allowed this season. Linares was charged with four earned runs in his 1.1 innings of work. Left-hander Sean Brady started for Akron and went 5.2 innings and gave up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Duck Tales
Bobby Bradley socked a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Ducks a 4-2 lead. It was part of a three-hit night for Bradley, who also tripled and singled and drove in three RBI. Joe Sever was 2-4 with an RBI. Andrew Calica and Dorssys Paulino had back-to-back RBI hits in the fifth to give RubberDucks a brief 2-0 lead. Tyler Krieger singled in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to nine games
