ERIE, Pa. - The Baysox (12-11) plated four runs in the third, LHP Keegan Akin fanned a career-high 12 and Bowie snapped a four-game skid with a 7-3 win over the Erie SeaWolves (8-15) on Tuesday night at UPMC Park in Erie.
In the afore-mentioned third inning, a double and a single put two men on before Corban Joseph knocked in a run with an RBI single and an error charged to Erie RF Kenny Wilson on the play allowed two other runs to score. Ademar Rifaela added his first Eastern League home run later in the frame to make it a 4-0 game in favor of the Baysox.
Akin (3-2) allowed two runs on two hits while walking three and fanning a career-high 12 batters in six innings of work. LHP Luis Gonzalez (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, 3 K) and LHP Paul Fry (1.0 IP, K) combined to close things out for Bowie.
The 12 strikeouts are the most by a Baysox pitcher since RHP Radhames Liz fanned 14 on August 14, 2007 vs. Connecticut.
Erie cut the lead in half with solo runs in the fourth and fifth including a solo shot from Kody Eaves in the fourth.
In the top of the sixth, Adrian Marin reached on a fielder's choice and scored from first on Erick Salcedo's RBI double to make it a 5-2 game in favor of the Baysox.
SeaWolves starter Sandy Baez (0-2) gave up five runs on 11 hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in 6.0 IP.
A pair of solo home runs in the seventh off the bats of Joseph and Austin Hays extended the Bowie lead to 7-2. The home run was Joseph's second in as many nights and third of the year, while Hays is tied for the team lead with four round-trippers.
Five different players had multi-hit games for the Baysox: Anderson Feliz (2-4, BB, R), Joseph (3-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), Rifaela (2-4, HR, RBI, R), Aderlin Rodriguez (2-4) and Salcedo (2-4, 2B, RBI).
The series wraps up on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. as a starter yet to be determined for the Baysox will be opposed by Erie RHP Spencer Turnbull (0-3, 6.50).
