(Akron, Ohio) The Portland Sea Dogs bullpen shined as their offense scattered runs, leading to a 5-1 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday night at Canal Park.

The Sea Dogs claimed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when catcher Blake Swihart clubbed an RBI single, brining home Derrik Gibson who reached on a double.

Akron starter Duke von Schamann retired 10 of the next 12 Portland batters before Tyler Sturdevant took to the mound to provide relief.

Swihart kept things moving for Portland with a leadoff homer over the right-field wall, increasing the lead to 2-0 in the sixth. To start Akron's half of the sixth inning Tyler Naquin used a single up the middle to increase his hitting streak to 16 games. After Naquin was forced out in Francisco Lindor's at bat, the Akron shortstop stole second and crossed home on a Joe Wendle single to post Akron's only run and cut Portland's lead to 2-1.

Portland tacked on another run in the top of the seventh off a wild pitch from Sturdevant to escape a one-run game.

In the ninth inning the Sea Dogs went on to slap three consecutive singles with the final hit driving in two runs to break away and seal the victory.

Portland starter LHP Henry Owens recorded 6.2 innings pitched in which he fanned seven batters and allowed six hits and one run. Von Schamann (3-1) absorbed the loss despite getting off to a strong start. The right-hander threw six innings and allowed two runs off five hits while striking out four and walking one.

With the three-game series locked at one game apiece, the two Eastern League leaders will play the final game of the series at Canal Park on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. RHP Cody Anderson (2-4, 4.86) will be on the mound for Akron while LHP Brian Johnson (4-1, 1.96) is the probable starter for the Sea Dogs.
