April 6, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Reading, PA: For the second night in a row, the Road Warriors couldn't solved Reading netminder Riley Gill and were shutout 4-0 by the Royals.
Reading carried much of the momentum for the first period largely thanks to three penalties to the Road Warriors. Reading would outshoot the Road Warriors 13-6 in the period. Goalie Connor Knapp stood tall in net for Greenville, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the period.
The Reading power play broke through in the 2nd period however. With Brendan Connolly in the box for interference, Marc-Olivier Vallerand went down hurt at center ice, giving the Royals a five-on-three advantage in the attacking zone. Forward Alex Berry made the most of the opportunity for Reading. He blasted a slapshot from the faceoff circle through traffic and into the back of the net for the first goal of the game. Vallerand exited the game and did not return. Barry Almeida nearly doubled Reading's lead just a few minutes later. The Boston College product took a feed down low on a two-on-one break however was denied by a sprawling save by Knapp. The Royals would find that second goal late in the period. Stanislav Galiev took a wrist shot as he entered the zone that sneaked over the right pad of Knapp and into the net giving Reading the 2-0 lead.
The scoring continued for Reading in the third period. Back-to-back goals from Nikita Kashirsky and T.J. Syner in the first four minutes of the period gave the Royals the 4-0 lead. The goals also ended the night for Connor Knapp as he was pulled in favor of Garrett Bartus. The pair of goals iced any chances of a Road Warriors come back as Reading cruised to a 4-0 win.
Knapp took the loss stopping 26 of 30 shots. Bartus stopped all six shots he faced in relief for the Road Warriors. Gill earned the win and his second straight shutout in the series, turning aside 27 Road Warriors shots on goal. The win gives the Royals a 2-0 series lead.
The Road Warriors look to rebound as they return home on Wednesday night. The first 1000 fans at the game will receive a Warriors Rise cowbell. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Game four of the series is back on the Century BMW Rink at the BI-LO Center on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Game five, if necessary, will take place at home on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. You can follow all the playoff action as well as purchase tickets at greenvilleroadwarriors.com/playoffs.
