Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 3, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks, members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, today announced that the contract of pitcher Pat Mahomes was purchased by the Kansas City Royals and assigned to Triple-A Omaha. He is the sixth Duck to be signed by an affiliated club this season.
"Pat was a guy that we counted on to give us a chance to win every fifth day," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "It's tough to see him go, but we are happy for him. We are confident that he will bring the success he had on Long Island to Omaha."
In his first season with Long Island, Mahomes was named to the 2006 Atlantic League All-Star team. In 18 starts for the Ducks, the former Met amassed a 9-4 mark with a 3.78 ERA. He led the Atlantic League with four complete games, 125 innings pitched and was tied for second in the circuit with nine wins.
The Long Island Ducks are in their seventh season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have averaged over 100 percent attendance capacity of 6,002-seat Citibank Park in each of their first six seasons and are one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
