
Riversharks take series from Patriots with 5-3 win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-3 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Riversharks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Brad Strauss doubled and came around to score on an RBI double by second baseman Lino Connell.
Camden extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Connell singled and came around to score on a two-run home run by right fielder Denny Abreu (8), his fourth of the series.
The Riversharks made it a 4-0 game with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Alejandro Friere reached on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Matt Demarco.
Somerset cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Third baseman Jeff Nettles reached on an error and scored on a two-run home run by right fielder Ryan Radmanovich (18). The game was Radmanovich's fourth straight with a home run.
Camden answered with another run in the top of the eighth inning on an infield RBI single by Demarco to score Abreu, who drew a walk earlier in the inning.
The Patriots threatened by bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but managed a run on a Nettles' sacrifice fly for the 5-3 final.
Riversharks starter Greg Powell (5-9) picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and five strikeouts in eight innings pitched. Patriots starter Keith Ramsey (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing five runs, four earned on six hits in over seven innings pitched. Chris Fussell earned his 12th save of the season for Camden.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. Friday's game includes Thermal Mugs for the first 2,000 fans courtesy of GSP International and Rutgers Knight.
