Royals Select Eric Florchuk 13th Overall in 2015 WHL Bantam Draft

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce the selection of Eric Florchuk with the team's first selection, 13th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Fort Saskatchewan, AB native spent the 2014-15 season with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL) where he collected 46 points (24g-22a) in 33 games. In 14 contests in the 2015 AMBHL Playoffs, Florchuk notched 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points as the Rangers fell in the finals. Florchuk was also named an all-star in this year's Alberta Cup where he registered five points (4g-1a).

"Eric is a dynamic player who is gifted offensively and one of the best players our scouts have seen in recent years," General Manager Cameron Hope said. "We are excited about his future in the Western Hockey League."

In 2013-14 the 5-10, 140 lb centre recorded 22 points (9g-13a) in 33 games with the Rangers in his first season with the club.

The WHL Bantam Draft is an annual event in which the clubs of the Western Hockey League select players who have graduated from bantam. For the 2015 draft, players born in 2000 are eligible. Draft order is determined by way of points in the regular season, with the exception of teams that missed the WHL Playoffs which are placed into a draft lottery for the first round only. With the exception of the lottery results in the first round, teams will select in order of fewest to most regular season points.

During the bantam draft, players from Western Canada and the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming are eligible to be selected.
